To assist and carry out any task requested by the Bosun when at sea, or in port for planned maintenance as directed by the Chief Officer. To carry out watchkeeping duties when at sea and to always ensure a high level of shipboard cleanliness both inside and out.

Essential Criteria

1. EDH certificate.
2. Navigational Watch Rating certificate
3. ENG1 or equivalent medical to sail on a UK merchant vessel
4. STCW Personal Survival Techniques (PST), Firefighting and fire prevention, Elementary First Aid, Designated Security Duties

Job Purpose: To assist and carry out any task requested by the Bosun when at sea, or in port for planned maintenance as directed by the Chief Officer.  To carry out watchkeeping duties when at sea and to always ensure a high level of shipboard cleanliness both inside and out.

Key Accountabilities: 

• General maintenance of the ship under the supervision of the Bosun and direct requests from the Chief Officer.
  
  
• Safe operation of all deck equipment.
  
  
• Safe handling of scientific equipment during deployment and recovery.
  
  
• Safe and efficient undertaking of mobilisation operations.
  
  
• Safe and efficient undertaking of boating operations
  
  
• Safe and efficient undertaking of security requirements at sea and in port.

Essential Criteria:

• EDH certificate.
  
  
• Navigational Watch Rating certificate.
  
  
• ENG1 or equivalent medical to sail on a UK merchant vessel.
  
  
• STCW Personal Survival Techniques (PST).
  
  
• STCW Firefighting and fire prevention.
  
  
• STCW Elementary First Aid.
  
  
• STCW Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities.
  
  
• STCW Designated Security Duties.
  
  
• Discharge Book
  
  
• Right to work in the UK.
  
  
• Adhere to Health and Safety regulations
  
  
• Excellent communication skills
  
  
• Follow and implement instructions as required

Desired Criteria:

• Have experience in the fishing industry
  
  
• Experience on fishery research vessels or similar.
  
  
• Certificate in Proficiency in Survival Craft & Rescue Boat (PSC&RB)
  
  
• Full Able Seafarer Certificate
